Tummy tuck ("abdominoplasty") surgery involves removing excess skin and fatty tissue, tightening the underlying muscles, and improving the overall shape and contour of the abdomen. Most patients stay overnight for monitoring and are sent home the following day. A binder is worn on the abdomen for 3 weeks to decrease swelling and complication risk.
The majority of patients return to work 3-4 weeks postoperatively, but heavy lifting or vigorous abdominal exercise (eg. sit-ups) should be avoided for 6 weeks. The postoperative photos were taken only 2 months following surgery. Scars will often continue to fade for up to 1 year postoperatively. Click photos to enlarge.
